Any1 own Potamotygon Constellata??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i wonder if a constellata would be dangerous in a ray comm, cuz of its spikes, form others rays topping it?

the ray in that video has spines on its tail, but its not a constellata

Wow, never knew someone on MFK owned her.

How hard is it to get this species?
Also what did you pay for her (in dollars).

Any info you can give? Diet. picky eater, growth rate, personality (skitish) etc...

This is a very apealing species and I think there could be more floating around if the face gets out there:D

Hi.
I came across this ray by chance,it belonged to a lad ive known for many years,he had it from a pup,it wasny till it started to mature that the huge denticles appeared.I loved the tall mantle on this ray,it reminds me so much of Hystrix but even bigger eyes,it is said that this is the only ray species with a mantle higher than what is found with latter.
This was a very active ray that never stopped pounding the substrate in search of food, its favourite food was sinking pellets but would take pretty much anything.....so no,not a fussy feeder.
The ray was about a 15inch disc when i let her go.
Last year i was swimming in the Rio Tapajos (Brasil),one of the local fishermen told me that Constellata were found in that river,we never saw any but i have no reason to disbelieve him,he was an expert on freshwater rays, really knew his stuff.
Hope this helps you.
regards,
Richard.

Yes your right it is for sale,i know the guy whos got it,just havent seen him in a long time, might pay him a visit sometime though ive heard he wants substantially more than i let it go for.
Ive unfortunately recently lost my breeding female Hystrix,a real blow i can tell you,she was approx 15 years old.My thought was i could possibly put the male Hystrix in with this female Constellata, both rays have huge eyes and a very tall mantle.......what a hybrid they could turn out to be,imagine a ray with the pattern of Hystrix but with huge denticles on its back.......how good would that be?
Anyone thats reading this and has a very large Hystrix female they would be willing to part with then please get in touch....must be in the UK.
Cheers!

That would be cool to see a Hystrix with major spikes :)

hi guys, i had one for some years. lost her to an extreme water change. she was in a ray comm. with no problems. all the other rays made it thru the water change. i had her in black sand . she looked neon with a dark body . when she came in she looked like the other pics.
