i work at lfs but never gotten stung, got a piece of my finger bitten off by a queen trigger, bitten by a green tiger eel, and by a red knee tarantula. the trigger for sure hurt the worst, got 5 stitches than about a week later it got infected. it sucked

A guy at lfs near us had his pinky grabbed by dog faced puffer while he was showing off, but it let him go after draggin him halfway into the tank...weird how it didnt just have it for dinner koz that fish is huge!

Leatherjacket aka skipjack! holy crap i almost cried on that one

not by a lionfish but by a platydoras costatus ,the side spikes are painful it ripe my finger :swear:

Venomous, poison has to be ingested. Venom is injected (via spines, fangs etc...)

I've been tagged before. I can't say I've met someone who just said "ouch" afterwards, but they're not the worst thing in the sea to be hit by. Lions have enough in them to sit you down for awhile and cause a tear or two to fall.

i got stung by a yellow stingray a few years ago. it hurt like hell. it was on my wrist so i couldnt move my fingers for a few days w/o a lot of pain. it happened on the first day of a week lond vacation too. i still have a scar. i cant get any pics because i broke that same wrist snowboarding and its in a cast until the 27th. i almost got stung lobstering too. i saw 1 in the sand and pointed at it and it tried to hit me w/ its tail as it darted away. it nicked my finger but didnt break the skin.

is it illegal to keep them as pets? i've had this urge to catch a small 1 but i dont have the tank space.

You have your idiot right here. I was working in a store called Sand Castle Aquarium and scooped a 6" black volitan for a customer when it jumped as I was flipping the net and two spines caught my thumb. I finished bagging up the fish, and two seconds later felt like I got hit with a bullet. I had to take some serious benedryl and lots of hot water. I had tried sucking the poison out at first, but all I managed was to remove the spines. Took like a week or two to fully heal, it was around 13 years ago this happend.

*(Funny aside - my buddy John at the store got stung a week before and was really f-ed up from it, but that lion was HUGE, he was cleaning a tank and got careless. I guess Karma's a *****, because I was riding him all week on it)

Rabbit fish hurt, but I thought the lion was much worse for me. The rabbit stung for most of the day, when I mentioned it to the boss, he was surprised I didn't know about them beforehand.

One of the worst things I always thought were plecos and cory cats, those little bastards stuck me constantly and always got infected.

Up in Puget Sound I was stung a couple times by these, plainfin midshipmen (Porichthys notatus), the pain is very intense for the first 10 minutes or so but is pretty much gone within 15. They are interesting fish that are saltwater but adapt readily to lightly brackish unheated tanks, they max out at about 15" but are slow growing and most of the ones I saw, and the one I kept for a while were closer to 10". They can live for days in FW or for that matter a pile fo wet seaweed. They also have photophores under their chins and when feeding in a darkened tank they show bright little flashes of light.

I was on a cruise at mexico and was stung by a jellyfish. I had to pee in a bottle and dump it on my head. I showered like 999 times!!! It hurt a bit and was kind of wierd cause it attacked me.
