Anybody Collect or Invest in silver?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thanks for the info guys. now i'm gonna keep an eye out for them

so who do i sell them to if i come across some?

you can try to sell them to a gold buyer, but personally I would just hang onto them. If you want to sell them easier, melt them down, but beware it's a federal offense to do so (defacing currency to a point of it being unusable as so), but once it's melted down, you can't tell.

thanks, i don't have anything to melt them with

but now you guys got me looking at all my change. i'll start to collect them also as i come across them.

i have some change in my office and looked thru them, oldest coin i found was dime from 68

Wow silver dropped 2 bucks an ounce today. Time to buy.

1500 is about 50 oz... that's a bit to have 4lbs of silver just sitting around.

As stated above, coins (even pennies) are illegal to melt down/deface.

Na don't need to melt down. The 90% coins are pretty easy to move. Pawn shops and commercial gold buyers make for quick sale but less profit. Best bet is to find private buyers through Craigslist.

Not sure about U.S. coins with silver content but I do know their are anti melt and export laws for nickels and pennies.

I think I can clear up some of these myths. You can melt coins, nobody is going to bust you on it, however it is a bad idea! The coins have more value because they serve as bullion. What I mean is, the US government has certified the precise metal content of each coin. If you melt down your coins then you lose that guarantee. As such, the only person who should melt down coins is someone who is planning on either making it into something themselves or selling it directly to someone who is going to be making it into items. When it comes time that you wish to sell your coins, you sell them to another collector. The people who DO melt down coins do it by the ton. Scrap metal places and such. Silver coins are easy to find buyers near spot (local coin shops want to make a profit when they resell it) or you can sell them on ebay. Copper pennies can be sold by the pound on ebay, or if you get in with the right crowd of coin hoarders/enthusiasts/investors you can sell to them. The price depends on the going spot price of copper and shipping costs (selling in large lots, most likely of at least ten pounds), but you can expect to sell them for 1.5cents/penny if you can find a buyer right now.

I'm not revealing who you can sell them to, you'll have to do your own searches and networking for that tee hee :D
