Anybody else have adult Electric Blue/Gold ("Platinum") Dempseys?

Oh, that's true. I didn't even think about that... In order to continue your work in breeding these bad boys, what would suggest as the best possible mating pair (EB male/plat female, vice versa, Plat/BG, Plat/gold, so on) like what's worked best now that it's been a couple months of you working with these fish to figure it out...

As far as what kind of pairing works best to produce platinums, a lot of work still needs to be done. At this point, I have only produced platinum fry from one pairing ( plat male x gold/blue gene female). But I have out crossed the platinum male to multiple females, so with this next generation I can experiment to find out which pairings create the healthiest babies. The challenge will be to see which combination produces both the maximum amount of platinums per spawn, and also the healthiest fish. For instance, it may be possible to breed 2 platinums together to produce all platinum fry, but will they be as healthy and strong as the fry from the outcrossed fish?

From the spawns so far, I have held back a wide variety of fish to add back into my project. I have everything from platinums, ebjd with the gold gene, golds with the blue gene, jd's that carry both blue and gold genes, unrelated ebjd's, unrelated blue genes, and F1 jacks from wild-caught parents. So it is with this next generation that your question will be answered. I plan to do as much outcrossing as possible, and keep detailed records on each spawn. So it is going to be interesting to see where this project is at a year from now. I plan to be in this for the long haul, and hope to be able to improve the bloodlines of all morphs of jack dempsey...

Sorry I've been neglecting this thread yet again....too busy hatching out bbs, feeding, and doing water changes! ;)
For an update, all the platinums from the first spawn are gone (except for my holdbacks) and several local fish stores are well-stocked with my ebjd's.
Still lots going on around here....at the moment I still have 7 spawns growing out to keep me busy. And some of my holdbacks are almost ready to start pairing off, so it should not be long before I find out whether platinum x platinum or platinum x ebjd can produce viable fry. Can't wait... :)
Also have a new unrelated ebjd x BG pair that just formed, and my F1 Escondido jacks are starting to pair up. Those will eventually be used to bring some more genetic diversity into my platinum and ebjd lines. So lots of exciting stuff still to come...
Thanks again to everyone who has helped make this project such a success...for all your comments and kind words along the way, and to all those that have provided great new homes for all my babies :)

Dude this project is awesome and so is the time and effort you put in it!
I hope you keep up with the good work and wish you the best of luck in the future :)

Let me know when you will have some more ready, I want some more just not sure if I want plats or ebjds. Do you get any golds out of your spawns?

Hi Scott, thanks for the update on the little guys! I only have ebjd's available at the moment. I do have more platinums growing out that should be ready in a month. I do get golds from my spawns, but haven't been growing any out due to lack of tank space. But if you're interested I can hold some back for you :)
