Anybody else notice this with orino coloration?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i also have two orinos right now ranging from 8-9" and one has the red fins as you mention but the color is different than the other one. The one with red fins has more of yellowish greenish color as the other one with the blue'r fins has more of a green color and sometimes dark green.

here is an old pic i took about almost 2 months ago
you can see the difference how the one that is yellowish color has the red fins and the one behind it is the one with blue fins is way more greener in color

^ nice! thats the exact scenario i was talking about :)

u could also bring in that the markings differ as well with the one in the back has a more rounded markings while the one in front has that elongated banded type of markings

yeah i have thought about this too, but ive found that round vs diamond markings is too random. ive seen it all variations with no way to make a connection :nilly:

THere is a LOT of variance within each species of cichla, in part due to locality, or specific populations, but also within a batch of fry from the same parents. At that point it also depends on what grows up to pass on its genes and traits.

My opinion is these are simply from different locales. Tie in area's where they overlap and interbreed giving variances from one end to the other.

exactly what i was thinking...dont think it has anything to do with breeding with other species.

yeah i wasnt referring to breeding with other species - it was more along the lines of different variations and trying to point down what country they come from. because most orinos are from the orinoco which runs though venez. and colombia. but at this point there are no characteristics which distinguish the fish from a certain region

oh yeah,my post wasnt referring to what you said,it was those who talked about crossing with intermedia etc.

I have atleast one of each of those kinds of orinos, and I will update their growth to see what they turn out like.

Are you saying that both colorations from same batch same vender or diff batches diff vender .and yes the brighter green looks much better hope mine turn out half as good as yours.
