Anybody got polypterus palmas?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if thats the case, they they should be fine :)

the only thing i worry is if the bichirs will be able to eat alot because they have other fish as competition for food. i recommend you get tongs to feed the bichirs

parrot fish are awesome with bichirs i have 2 with my ornate buettikoferi and senegalus. When my parrotfish it digging his holes and bichirs swim through he gently nudges them out it is soo cool. But as far as congo tetras what i've read they only get to about 3-4 inches. With wild caught bichirs they at some point will get eaten. I would say if you are going to put some tetras in the only ones i know of that will last would be silver dollars.

Silver dollars aren't tetras. But he is right, many Polys become pretty good hunters, especially at about 10". My ornate was picking off full grown fancy guppies at 4-5". I wouldn't do tetras, or many fish that weren't at least 4" with full grown upper jaw Polys. And 6"+ with lower jaws and ornates/weeksii

However it is worth a try if your just doing the two palmas, may or may not work with full grown congos.

I tried huge tiger barbs with mine, and eventually they began to get picked off by my (at the time) ~8" delhizi.

Congos should be fine provided they are full grown I keep 4 congos with a 5 inch sen and he doesnt even look at them while he destroyed 3 1.5 inch red eyes its a toss up

When that sen gets bigger it will be a matter of time remember he can get to up to 14-16 inches. Although he will probably stay around 10-12. But still that size can still fit them into it's mouth. But it will take a while till he gets that size but doesn't mean he won't try.

Do yall think he will still be able to ship in the winter? If not i can get some from my lfs for the same price almost theyre 40 but i cant choose a species.

if you can get them from the LFS for $40, id do that to avoid shipping. BUT theres a chance that it wont be palmas polli

The thing is tiger barbs are smaller and delhezi are more aggressive (from what I've heard) if they start getting aggressive toward the congos I'll move the congos out.

Sounds like a good plan, although when I say huge, I mean huge. 3.5 inches long and probably2.5" tall and round, but it's worth a shot with the congos. And if you want a true palmas, I'd order from toyin unless you can see the poly in person. Wholesalers are the worst with Polys, I ordered a wc retro and a lap from my lfs' wholesaler, and got a polli and an ansorgiixendli haha.
