Anybody have experience using butt joints on large glass aquarium?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Neo posted a video once of a tank in Asia. It was at least 16' long and 6' tall. It had a butt joint right in the center and held just fine with silicone. On butt joints, its about making sure the quality joint is there.

God information. Thank you! Now if I could get the search functions to find it.

Looks like they are relying on the top and bottom (concrete?) they don't even have a brace over the joint. That's more to my suggestion of a plywood tank really , meaning the glass isn't the main structure.

All I'm saying is glass tanks and silicone are a lot stronger then people realize!

I have built numerous tanks on site in the UK similar to this, but I'm not familiar with the sizes of glass available in the USA. At 30in high I would use 12mm glass double based, then conventional bracing around the top. I'm assuming you can purchase 126in long lengths of 12mm glass?

I want your job! How lucky, building tanks all day!

I will have to check into it but with enough money I think I can get whatever I want. But I want to keep the cost as reasonable as I can.
