I picked one of these guys up about 4 months ago and did some research initially but still had some questions. I'm having some issues tracking down some info, so I was hoping to get some first hand help.

So I have an adult Budget's frog, more or less, and he generally seems skittish or stressed out most of the time. He is in a 10 gal tank that is half-way filled with water. I have a filter in there and a heater that keeps the water at like 80-ish( i think). He has rocks that let him come out of the water, but I'm thinking about taking some of them out to give him more room.

So first question is about taking the rocks out. I have the rocks in also to help block the heater and stop heater burn. Is this a common problem with these guys? I was thinking about putting the heater in a pvc pipe with holes in it to help with that.

Secondly and most importantly, about estivation. I've only had him for 4 months but I was wondering if he needs to go into estivation. What are the signs that he is wanting to go into that? And what is the general process. I heard to drop the water gradually to simulate a dry season and then put him into a bucket with coco fiber and let him burro. Also heard to put a bowl of water on the top of the soil for when he comes out. So do they just come out on their own? And what about the temperature when they're in the soil. Should the room temp be still in a certain warmth range?

Thanks for the help!

We have a couple in at work, we keep them in a vivarium with a coc-fibre type substrate which we keep damp, with a large water bowl and some artifcal decor in there for cover and aesthetical purposes, Theres 2 in the cage and they dont spend much time together. Not sure if you can keep them in a tank with as much water as you have.

Hello!

Her I care a few Lepidobatrachus laevis very easily under some special conditions: clean water(with pump) and very fresh food!. These are the very important items to
keep these frogs.

Thanks for all the replies.

So as far as estivation. What do you all do?

I kept them years ago, and there very sensitive to toxins in the water.
It will do them in.

You should check the ammonia and nitrites in your set up.

For the time being, you might be better off getting him into something were you can completely change that inch or so of water, everyday or every other day.
