I was just wondering if anybody here had ropefish? i have one, really beautiful creatures, but very shy. I have to sit very still if i want to watch him eating. is it the same with every ropefishes, or does anyone have "tame" ones? I can post some pictures of mine if you want, and if i manage to take some pretty ones. the fish is about 20 cm I think. what size can they reach? I've heard from 30-90 cm, so I don't know what to believe...

Edit:
Maybe reedfish is the correct english name? the scientifical name is Erpetoichthys calabaricus

I've seen them at my LFS, and have always been a bit curious about them. I've heard "reedfish", but "ropefish" or "rope eels" are more common names for them here in the states.
Definitely post a pic.

here is a pic of two ropefish at my LFS. They are both over 12 inches long and selling for $9.99 each. They grow to about 3ft long.

rope fish like to be hidden from what ive seen.

I had one then sold it to my brother along with all of my bichirs. They deffinitely like to hid and yes they get upwards of 3 feet.

the ropefish you see in the picture above, is a polypyterus. NOw exactly a "rope fish" the real "rope fish" is an aquatic legless amphibian

I heard they can handle brackish. Is this true. I would love to get one!

I have one that is kinda bashfull but when he is active he's all over the place. I've heard they can handle slightly brackish water (but if to bad they tend to move to other water in the wild) make sure your lid is on tight with no cut outs i had one escape out of a small hole one time now i have made covers for any and all hole in lid
