I was transfering a 10" calcarifer to a bigger tank and ran into problems. I neted the fish fine and put him into a cooler with some of the tank water, as soon as I took it out and released into bucket he's upside down! I had this problem before when moving 16 4"ers to a 120g. Its been 5 hours and still upside down. He was doing great but its like his equilibrium was thrown of or something. I even tried holding him in front of a powerhead for an hour with no avail. I hope he pulls through the nite.

Thats what I was thinking. oh well...he's still kicking but cant get himself rightside up. I wonder if adding salt will help some how. I know certain fish do differently when changing tanks and salt can be a factor because of buoyancy

adding salt will help as well as not giving up trying to hold it in the upright position...what you cannot do is leave it upside down...

if you get tired put it in a polybox with an airstone in front of the snout and maintain it in the upright position with something like eggcrate or whatever... I did this to no avail for more than 24 hours with an aro, but we saved several aro's that way and last week I saved a 2 feet clown knife just by holding it for more than an hour in the tank..

was it a long moove from one tank to the other?

nope. Bucket was clean. The lates is still alive. The belly has swollen and I'm trying to treat it with salt and Maracyn 2. I'm starting to think that it gulped air and cannot release it. I have 1 more day for treatment with maracyn 2 but dosent look like it helped. After treatment ends I may try to use aneedle to make a small hole for air to escape as a last effort.
