I have a friend that has a pretty much unlimited supply of 1/4" glass who is willing to build me a free tank. What is the biggest I can go in terms of demensions and total volume with that thickness of glass?

I would not go larger than a 45 gallon. 36in by 18in by 12in. Make sure you make your own jigs to keep the glass level.

With the space I have to put the tank in the house ,I was actually considering a 60L"X 24W"X18H"=112 Gallon.I was planning on going with 6" braceing all the way around the top and going with 2 1 1/2" bulkheads for overflows and 2 3/4" returns.Probably go with a 30 gallon sump.

1/4" isent strong enuf for anything over 12"

you can build a 144 x 48 x 12 it would be fine

but a 36 x 12 x 30 tall would bow and break

ive never built a tank before, but i wouldnt build a tank those dimensions with anything under 1/2in.

I agree those are way to big of tanks for 1/4 inch thick glass. Good luck finding something to use it for though.

u can actually go 18" tall > 1 1/2 ft with 1/4" no bigger. im planning on making a glass tank with 1/4" with the dimensions 78x24x18 or 84x24x18 havent decided.
