As long as you continue lifting and you're eating enough protein, you don't need to worry about losing muscle while trying to get those abs. Just make sure the amount of calories you're burning each day is > the amount you're consuming

Concentrate on more where you get your calories from. You should be getting enough protein to build your muscle back and enough other nutrients to fuel your energy and other body functions. I eat 6 smaller meals a day. One thing I've learned is if your breaks between sets get too long it allows you to relax, and in turn the fat burning process is slowed. How I lost my bottom two abs.. plus I eat to gain not to stay lean. But remember, protein from a good clean meal is better than anything you'll get from a frozen meal or a McDonald's cheeseburger.
