KML is considered as a "modern" GM. But not quite the same as the original old schools. JPG aka Golden Apple is a TRUE "GM" themselves. They came before KGM even existed, a KGM is a GM themselves. Although modern KGM now a days aren't quite the same as the old schools originals but they do consist more KGM blood than any other fish does. As rumored, GM and Kamfa does not have any trimac in them...JPG aka Golden Apple is a very good example here for a GM and the King Bacara for Kamfa. In my opinion and theory, King Bacara and Golden Apple are just brothers with two significant trait and similarities given two different name and branched out two different ways. Neither I nor do most people knows where did GM came from before JPG aka Golden Apple even existed. All I know is that KGM is the son of JPG, then it comes to SML, and so on.
That link your reading there is a very old post, it already existed with FlowerhornUSA before FH'RUS and FHC even existed. That link there is just the basics, it doesn't give exact details on how it was really done and how did the trend really went. Just like Thai Silk...many believe they were Kamfa (because of the King Bacara) when it first hit the market hard. But the truth is they are not Kamfa, they turned out to be from SRD. I like your vision of creating your own type of GM, but good luck with that. It is a whole lot more complicated than it seems. The name would not stand for itself if it isn't steady and keeps on producing the genetics generations after generations. The dominance of the trait is what gives it its name, other than that. It would not catch on fire at all and end quicker than you may think.
For example, you may have one pair that produces a fish with a perfectly balanced kok with graffiti pearls and all of them are free marking. You may name it "GFM" for Graffiti Monkey. You can continue breeding those two original pairs of yours and it would produce the exact same steady genes for on and on. But once you cross it with an outsider, everything about that name and significant trait you gave that fish suddenly disappears(this is what happens to King Diamond from Vietnam). Or even if you cross it with it's own sibling and what not - everything came out different and unexpected. Harder than said, but if your up for the challenge then all powers to you.
P.S. - If you were to ask me of what really looks like a GM now a days, Thailand SRD. Believe it or not, RD and SRD from Thailand are two totally different fish. In other words; SRD is the "GM" as of today.
