I absolutely love the stuff. Something about polyrythms, odd time signatures that just get me going. I think its my ADD that led me to the stuff. I get bored with normal metal rather quickly. Just a couple bands that are worth checking out would have to be:
Aversions crown
Born of Osiris
After the burial
Periphery
Meshuggah
The faceless
Who else listens to this stuff?! I can't be the only one.

Pretty much the only genres of metal that I don't like. I do however like Periphery..but not the 'djent core' whatever stuff that followed it. I like the tone though..

Also..enjoy haha.

I will agree that there are some bands that just followed the trend and make it sound horrible. But when its done right, got damn it is good:) The band Volumes is a great example of good djent/progressive

Never heard the term djent metal before but I do like progressive technical and math metal. I haven't gotten to explore this type of music as much as I would like to. Some of my favorites are gorguts, behold...the arctopus, indricothere and ion dissonance

Its was started my meshuggah. Djent is the sound the guitars make when palm muted. Listen to volumes, periphery, dot three. You'll get the idea lol

I still don't understand why so many so called "djent" bands feel the need to use a 7,8,9 string guitar, why not just take a baritone (long scale) guitar tuned to your key of choice? Most of them don't use the extra stringed instrument to half its potential, I suppose meshuggah would be the exception. Maybe its my OCD.

Because you can still play in standard tuning.

(Owns a 7-string)

I own a 7 string too, why not make up your mind to play in one or the other? What ''djent" songs are in standard, and you can play in standard with any other guitar as well, tunings not that hard

I switch guitars...I don't tune on stage, as I think it's very unprofessional, but that's a whole other topic. I prefer a 7-string to baritones because of the string size and tension, which is probably the same reason a lot of people do. There's always going to be people doing it for the cool factor though.
