Ran across the site from plantedtank.net and they seem like an awesome deal. they got a 48" 4x T5 bulb fixture for $119!!!!! and you get to choose the color bulbs you want!

i was looking at intense lighting options for my planted tank and this deal seems too good to be true. anybody try them before?

i know a lot of people have bought these but nobody writes a review on them! their metal halide lights are supposed to be awesome, plenty of reviews on those but nothing on the T5s!

You and I will get on and then we will comment back to ourselves… ha ha ha. I am with you on this one Jose.

Don

actually, you can get one Don, i bought the Solar light  let me know how it works out ;) seriously though, i think the only issue might be cheap bulbs with these fixtures.

Well a 4 x 39 watts 3 foot fixture would be 3.4 watts per gallon on my 46 bow front. Are these special bulbs or could I just pick them up at Tropical Haven?

yeah that sounds like it would be a good fixture, but youre definately gonna need pressurized co2 if you want that much light.

and yes, any T5HO bulb will work. tropical haven has them but youre gonna pay a lot. you can get 6500/10,000k bulbs on ebay for cheap. pet stores usually want about $20/bulb

also, be aware that there are normal output T5 and high output T5s. you need the ones that are high output, T5HO

Maybe I am wrong but I thought >= 10K color temp was not good and or unneeded for plants?

I read somewhere that the T-6 is a better bulb for a planted tank....I think the spectrum is better. I'm doing homework on it as we speak.

T6 better spectrum? doesnt really matter what the T-size of the bulb is so long as you have the right kelvin (K) rating. im confused by what you meant!! lol
