Anybody use the eBay glass drill bits?

Thanks for the tips guys. Yeah Bobby I seen those jigs but the problem is I'll be drilling close to the edge and the tank's rim will be in the way for that thing to lay flat.

Another question, I've read people saying to use a drill with a clutch. Is that absolutely necessary?

I don't think so, Jose. I didn't hit my clutch once while doing my holes recently. Low and slow and you shouldn't EVER hit a snag that causes the drill clutch to catch. Also, if it's close to the rim, I suggest a jig. Actually, I suggest a jig no matter what. Getting the hole started without the hole saw wandering can be tricky - unless you use a jig of some sort. Once your hole is established, the jig can be removed.

Yeah I'm thinking I'll either make my own jig, unless I can find one of these contraptions here, think that would work? What's the official name of this jig? Tried searching for one that includes larger sizes and couldn't find anything...

I dunno. I use a hole saw for the appropriate size and make one out of scrap plywood.

This ^^^^

I was just talking to someone the other day about glass drill bit and learned something interesting.

He stated that even the cheap bit can be "sharpened" and used for a long while. He said all you have to do it drill into a brick and it will sharpen the diamonds. Said he does it all the time when working with ceramic and glass hole saws as he does a lot of flooring.

I haven't confirmed this myself, but I thought it was something for discussion.

Yeah, worst thing that could happen is you tear up a worn out bit.
