30 gal breeder, 40 gal breeder, 50, 65 gallon tanks, maybe others.

I myself have a 40 gal breeder that i'm ever so slowly setting up. Have filtration coming in, have lighting planned out, my concern now is that i've hit a snag when it comes to figuring out what kind of top to get. being that it is a 3 feet wide tank with no center brace. i don't trust a piece of glass spanning 3 feet to support a shoplight or a pair of shoplights.

says i need a center brace. adding a center brace would disallow a decent seal up front and condensation would become a problem.

So please share what you folks have done for a lid on tanks that do not have center braces. thanks.

Make your own lids with glass. Honestly, it really will support it. Use 3/8" or thicker and you won't have any problem supporting a light.

I have a versa-top. It is heavy as hell. One big top and no center brace. The glass is way thicker than 24" and small tops. It supports the light no problem. I could probably sit on it.

You can also support it with Eggcrate...I have it on several of the utility tanks. It's easy to split so you have plenty of support and ease of maintance.

I already have versa tops on some 10's and 20's. Is the 40breeder one a lot thicker? cause if it is the same thickness then idk if i would trust that.

I have the same thing on my 40 breeder...I love it.

It is a lot thicker than the ones for the smaller tanks. The glass strips are wider too, so that adds a little more strenght and structural integrity.

Yeah my AGA 40 breeder top is completely fine with just a 1/4" glass top. I mean there is some sag where the flip top is but thats only because the rubber makes it a little unlevel. It works good even with a 6.5" Salvini smashing into it all the time and with a 36" light strip on it.

You can always pick up an acrylic sheet thats 3/8" thick and cut out your own openings. :D

It is one very solid piece, way thicker than all my other tops. There is no sag or anything. It is just solid, and not even close to failure.....
