looking through the 'log it fits Lug. Lugubris(pg23, 24). Although it also can be a Strigata or possible Xingu II depending on what a person knows or wants to pass it as. Mouths are different on ea, as are some colors.

Its not sp. 'xingu II' thats for sure. Not slender enough, not the right colors, blah blah blah. Also not strigata as all strigata variants have an occelated spot behind their pectoral fin, same as with most lenticulata. Key thing to look for in strigata, marms, and lenticulata is the occelated 'shoulder' spot...
Definately needs an update on the book! Thats for sure!! Its either species ven. or sp. lugubris....although it might be a few others not mentioned...Brilliant fish!
BTW...LOVE your sand!! haha....where did you get it?
I do have an Aqualog right here next to me and your fish is almost a perfect match for Cr. lugubris on page 23. The colors are a little off but the markings are right on. I'd say that yours happens to be male.
Generally don't see sp. 'lugubris' very much!! haha. They are not that common, mostly because of identification, as juv. its very hard to ID certain species. Most peeps don't keep most pikes to adults either, so thats another factor. Agreed in hindsight, that it does appear to be male...haha. Crazy kewl pike! Added some flavor for sure!
Thanx all. Ive had this guy for about a year, maybe a little longer. He was about 2.5" long when I got him and would only eat live food. I starved him for about 3 weeks offering a pellet a day but he wouldn't eat one. I finally succumed and got him some crickets. Now he will eat crickets and frozen ( thawed ) krill. Never seen him eat a pellet. He is about 7.5 inches long in those pics.
