Anyone able to ID this bigbox mis-label?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's so hard to tell what they are at that size. Nics or rainbows are very strong possibilities.

Look a little similar to the rainbows I saw at my LFS

Why doesn't anyone think they are hybrids? I assume everything is a hybrid until someone tells me otherwise ;) You usually pay more for something that isn't a hybrid.

Going today to buy them, always wanted Nics. Will update once they are in quarantine!
Don't buy them as nics on just my guess.
That's what they look like to me but I can't be sure from those pictures.
I want you to buy them though just to see what they are:-)

Just to add a little more confusion to the mix, below are some young multispinnossa (rainbows) the larger cichlid in the back, is Cichlasoma dimerus

The reason I doubt the are rainbows (at least from what I can see in the OPs photo.
Is that the ones in the photo have a subterminal mouth (like nicaraguense does)
meaning the mouth "points" downward, the upper jaw is in a more more dominant position.

As you can see by the sot above "rainbow have a terminal mouth, it point upward.
Another example of subterminal would be Paraneetroplus gibbiceps (below
another shot of a nic

Here is a shot of a lent eating mosquito larvae with their "predominently"subterminal mouth

Nice shots duanes, and a good reference point to the mouth on the op's pics. This is one of the reasons they look like nics to me.The other is the caudle and mid lateral line spot. They look in keeping with nics.
I could be completely wrong though.
