So I've been doing a lot more research now that I'm going to be stationary in Colorado for the extended future about the possibility of obtaining a captive Gila Monster. In my research I found Mark Seward's website, a Gila and Beaded Lizard breeder/seller (his website; http://www.docseward.com). He is also based in Colorado, and it only seems rational that when I eventually do pull the trigger on purchasing a Gila for myself that I would buy one through him. I was wondering if anyone here has any knowledge of his work or any suggestions for or against purchasing a Monster from him. I've sent him a message through his website. Ideally, it would be nice to intern/work for him with his lizards before I would purchase one. Getting hands-on experience with the animals before going for one of my own would be the best way to make sure I'm properly caring for the animal and the best way to learn as much as I can about them.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone can tell me anything about him or if anyone has any other suggestions on how to get some hands-on experience under a good mentor regarding these awesome animals. Thanks in advance!

Imo hes great to deal with and I would def recommend getting an animal from him if youre thinking about it. Hes extremely helpful and doesn't seem to get annoyed no matter how many emails u send lol. I emailed him alot last year with questions and he responded in detail to every one which seems to be rare for ppl to do anymore..

I've wanted a monster since years ago,did you get anything from him?

He did respond to my email. He sounds like a knowledgable guy to talk with and open to the idea of me doing some work for him with his lizards!

Nothing quite like hands-on experience with a master to teach me what I need to know to own my own!

I think that would be a great experience and i hope you really do get a chance to work with him. Let us know how it goes if you do!
I did get a beaded lizard from him last year. Hes quite feisty and not for the faint of heart(or inexperienced keeper)..but hes beautiful..

Just curious, what made you decide to get a Gila instead of a beaded? I'm hoping to get a beaded some day in the next couple years but that's cuz Gila's are illegal here in Cali but beaded's aren't.

That's a rather weird law.
