anyone bought a tank here?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had a fish tank guy in China quite me $1600 plus $250 dollars shipping for a 300 gallon acrylic tank.

The man in China also quoted me $3,500 dollars for a L shaped 700 gallon tank and $10,000 dollars for a 2,400 gallon hexagon.

Sounds like a logistical nightmare if the tank didn't get to you as expected. Sometimes you get what you pay for...

No I was going to get the tank and I had everything set up but my parents revolted at the idea of me putting in a 260 gallon fish tank in the basement of the house. So I bought the 300 gallon fish tank stand but didn't get the tank. Now I have a 75 gallon tank that sits on a 300 gallon stand.

Hahaha, thats cracked me up big time. So let me get this right, you planned to "sneak" a 260g down into the basement without your mam and dad noticing? That is quality, a true MFK member. Haha.

I have a GC 135 that i purchased in November of 2015. I am happy with the purchase. It's a very heavy tank as its euro braced. I ordered the black silicone as others said they tend to do a neater job with the black. The stand comes unfinished and I had to cut out the back of the stand for plumbing and electrical. The back of the stand was solid. The tank arrived only a few days after manufacture and I had to wait a few days before filling for the silicone to cure before filling.

thanks for all the replies, I have been keeping an eye on Craigslist for sure but no luck without a 4 to 5 hour drive. If I can't find one there I will be ordering one from Glasscages in the next month or so.

The glasscages 180 cost like 800 dollars, if it was cheaper than a tank you can get at your LFS like a marineland i would consider it but in all honesty I would just get a standard 180 at your LFS, no point in buying from glass cages if your going for a standard sized tank that cost less/the same at your LFS. I've never had a glasscages tank, but I have heard some horror stories about there tanks(not saying other manufacturers don't have problems too).

I try to only share my own personal experience rather than hearsay. My personal experience is that Glasscages tanks and stands are built superior to anything my lfs carries.

I have always been limited locally by what sizes the stores carry. Even my independent lfs had no interest in ordering anything over a 125. I am sure I am not the only one who can't just walk into a store and purchase a 180. I have 22 tanks from 29 to 250 . Different manufacturers, ages, some bought new, some used, and have one 55g with a slow leak so my experience is that problems are probably inevitable, but not very common.
