Well I have narrowed my list down to four fish, but can't decide on which one to get. I will probably get 2 or 3 small ones and wait for them to put some size on. Once they grow abit I will pick one that I am going to keep as a solo in its own tank unless I get a pair . So heres the four I am looking at:

Parachromis dovii --- never owned only read about.

Parachromis managuensis ---- raised a few years ago, great looking fish

Nandopsis haitiensis --- never owned but sounds like a beast, not to sure about due to adult size and no way I could house a pair as adults.

Amphilophus labiatus ---- Had a monster about 2 years ago and gave her up (big mistake). 12" TL -- Great looking fish but (only) like the females. I don't care for the hump at all.

I will be starting them off in a 55 or 40 gallon breeder until I decide on which one or two I am going to keep. Once they grow if I get a pair they will than be moved to a 120 long as a specimen tank only no other fish.
I kinda think it might be best to stay away from the Nandopsis haitiensis due to adult size.
Any would appreciate any input and all will be taken into concideration.
Also by all means if you have pics of these fish you own or use to own please post away. I am not a noob to fish keeping but like others thought.

Thanks for your time,

i would choose Dovii out of them anyday but if the biggest tank you would get them would be a 120 then i will rule them out as they need a 180 really.

Managuense are a very nice species and can live in a 120 quite happily.

haitensis, again very nice species but would want a 150 for life.

labiatum, brilliant personality and very aggressive, you live happily in a 120 for life but you dont care for males so..

order:

1. Dovii if you can get a 180

2. Managuense if cannot do dovii.

3. labiatum

4. haitensis

Based on the Tank size, (If this is the tank for life) I would lean towards the Jags, Haits, no way, you are correct, plus they are not the easiest to get to adult size, Dovii, I would not put in anything less then a 6', so you might be ok, but I agree that you would need a 180 min for adult size, (I had a female in a 150 solo, and felt guilty) The Liabs sure, that should work, but can you sex them?

1: Jags
2: Liab
3: Dovii
4: Haits

Good Luck and keep us updated on your choice!

go with the jags, they have overall 'guapote' appearance and qualities, and stay smaller than the dovii, allowing you to use something like a 120 as its home

Thank you all for your input. (Balton777) My 120 is 60x18x26. I think I am going to go with the Jag's. I think the Dovii would be a kewl fish to raise, but like Nutt88 I would feel bad watching a beast in a tank to small. So, after all the great advice it looks like the Jag wins.

Thank you all, and I like the sig's of the dovii are they yours?

i vote for jags. I am currently raising my future little monster, he is 3" now.
