I am going to have to cut about 2" off the end of my 1/2" thick plate glass, the total panel is 8' long and 30" tall and I will be cutting the 30" tall part. This is going to be a viewing panel for my plywood tank so the cut doesn't have to be perfect. If I were cutting a larger section I would be more comfortable scoring the glass and snapping it, I know it will be very hard to take 2" off a 8' long piece this way. I have heard others using a small hand wet saw for tile. Any suggestions are helpful and remember it doesn't have to be perfect

Make a pair of break pliers and do scoring technique? I'm not too sure on this one, diamond blade saw with a bunch of water? millerkid519 millerkid519

I feel like you run the risk of damaging the glass more with a saw than trying to score and snap it. If the glass was thicker I'd go for the saw but 1/2" is pretty thin.

If I were in your shoes I'd score it, then snap it using a two or three pairs of pliers spaced along the strip. Get a buddy to help and it shouldn't be too much of an issue I'd think.

Use a circular saw with a diamond blade and lots of water is your only solution. Make a guide for your saw the hole length of the glass and cut slow this is how i pLan on squaint up my 3/4 inch glass when the time comes. I cut my 1/2 braces for my sump with a wet tile saw easy enough and its the same idea

Well first off its not the height thats the problem, the glass is 8' wide and so is the sheet of plywood minus the 3/4" on each side making 1.5". I was going to leave some extra space so probably going to take 2.5" off. I actually do auto glass for a living so I have cut several laminated glasses over the years but never plate. I would much rather cut with a saw the score and snap it, if I were cutting a foot off id do it that way

Were you going to use a 7" diamond blade or 7 1/4' The 7" is alot easier to get thats why im asking
