Anyone else enjoy maintenance day?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was worried to do this due to the water temp coming straight from the hose. I do live in San Diego county so it's not like the water coming out too cold, I just don't want the temp to drop too much. I have been thinking about picking up a cheap pond pump or powerhead and a few 55 gallon barrels. That way I could fill the barrels with the hose, heat and treat the water then just pump it into the tank.

when i do a 90% water change in my tank, the temp drops from 80 to 74. then it's back up to 80 again the next day. i don't think a 6 degree drop will affect the fish much.

WC and fish stuff is more fun than going out with girls!

Love cleaning my tank its like 2nd nature but not better than women well at least not to me lol

Enjoy......hell no! I have 1 X 180g, 1 X 125, 1 X 75, 2 X 40g, and a 15g. Takes more than 4 hrs to do it right....YUK! It's all that damn aquascaping that has to be moved around. I know the guys and gals like it so it is worth it....just a PITA!

Friday is my fish tank maintenance day and i love every minute of it. I currently only have one tank a 215 gallon that i change about 50 % of the water in once a week. the fish dont seem to mind me sticking my hand and the siphon about the tank and my bala shark will occasionally come right up and check out what i'm doin which is pretty cool. I would say the whole process takes about 2 hours start to finish and when im done with that its off to wander around the petstores for a couple hours.

I have a 125 in my basement and use a python connected to the laundry tub. 20 minutes tops once a week. I enjoy watching the fish really color up after a water change. Always had 1 tank and like it that way. Girl friend has a saltwater 125 in her basement that one takes a little longer but that is her job. We both actually enjoy doing the weekly maintence.

I hate doing maintenance now, cuz its a pita to get my hose to my tanks, keep it on the floor drain, refill and then put away my hose. I didnt mind it tho when I had my own little fish room for a short time and the floor drain was right next to the tanks. I'd do it more often if it wasn't for having to unravel and re wrap the hose back up.

I would rather spend more time watching my fish. But I do what I have to for my babies. I use to do 2 - 20% water changes every week. Since my 8 tanks are all crystal clear thanks to weekly poly pad changes in my filters, I've cut down to 1 - 20% water change per tank per week using my python no spill and fill.

Today I get to do the 240, 55, and 37 all by myself. Just found out the usual helper isn't going to be around much today ha. 240 i will change around 100-120 gallons, about 15g in the 37 and 20-25g from the 55. Thats around 30 buckets filled one by one and lifted shoulder to head height. Its a decent workout[/QUOTE]
Helper.... thats what I get? Didnt see you happen to clean the 55 or the 37 today either hahaha...Can't wait to post and watch the feeding tonight
