Anyone else find africans boreing compared to Central/SA Cichlids?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I keep both old and New World cichlids and can honestly say they're interesting in their own ways. For old worlds I like the small type such as shell dwellers and fishes along that line while for New World cichlids I go totally the opposite by keeping tank busters.

yes! some of them may be better looking then some sa/ca cichlids but they are very boring

I think the majority of African cichlids are a lot less personable towards people but watching them interact with eatchother in a community makes up for that. With that said I do prefer American cichlids but I'm biased as I haven't kept that many Africans, eventually I will.

if you ask me, SA/CA are boring. africans are always doing something and more diverse. (color, behavior, breeding, size)

i've had a few africans but i like my ca/sa better. more personality and a blast with feeders.
africans are nice because you can squeeze a lot more in and some are absolutely beautiful, but they are somewhat boring in comparison to watch

I like them both. For movement in the tank, Africans. For personality, New Worlds. My female flowerhorn will let me pet her if I wish, and will bite anyone else. She knows who I am as I have hand fed her from the day I got her. She has as much personality as some dogs I know. Africans calm me down more with all their shoaling. My big NW guys just fight all the time, which makes me yell at them and stresses me out. Africans seem to not be able to turn their instinct off. More like robots.

CAs and SAs are way more fun than Africans are and its seems like they just have personality and overall more to offer
