Well, first of all...let's think of logical possibilities and/or reason that a large supermarket chain would do this...

too many customers inquiring and looking for the specific item, in this case Religious Candles...so instead of inconviencing the customers they made a shortcut, this way even the non-spanish speaking families or elders can easily get everything together.

and about the pinatas...its more universal than the candles. I will and never have seen Religious Candles in any other race's homes. But I had pinatas for my kids, as well as see other races have pinatas at birthday parties.

I worked at Foodmaxx for 4 years in the past and a lot of supervisors and managers are Mexican...and they do have a little bit of control over what goes where. Im sure whoever's idea it was to put the candles there didn't say, "We'll make fun of them for sure now."

So you're saying its OK to stereotype if the item gets requested enough times?

anyone ever think stereotyping = convenience? I mean, it does save you time in the store LOL

Exactly! Saves me time when having to decide whether or not to cross the street...

i'd burn the place down! i don't really find it offensive but what other word could i use? i find it "odd" that there's catholic candles in the food section geared toward hispanic/latinos yet the pinatas are in the soda section?

its pure economics MOST mexican-americans are catholic
