anyone else have a bichir that feeds up top on floating food?

My senegal is happy to eat anything anywhere in the tank while my lapradei is strictly a bottom feeder.

My reedfish eat anything anywhere too.

Ive had some that look there first. It all depends on what their staple is early on. Some of mine started on freeze-dried bloodworms or krill so they were used to going up top but as soon as I started giving them sinking pellets they got lazy, or stupid I dunno.

I have 2 hybrids that eat floating pellets. I find it common. Sometimes do death rolls while munching

I feed my ornate floating cichlid veggie pellets in the morning (he loves them). When I swith up his morning feeding with sinking massivore pellets he doesn't even scan the top of the tank, so I guess his has his diet's smells down pat, and knows where to look for what.

My 5” Sen does it, he competes with my Aro for crickets! He usually hangs out under an internal filter I have (turned sideways about 1.5” from bottom) but he takes laps around the tank every so often and even will swim along with the Aro…. Funny to find out this isn’t ‘normal’!

My delhezi will eat floating pellets. It also swims around near the surface at night, hunting behavior perhaps? It drifts around slowly near the top of the tank, I think it's trying to eat the giant danio.

My senegals always have they also readily hand feed. They are fun but my Ornates or Endli's or Delhezi's never seem to. I target feed all of them with tongs though.

I have a delhezi and ornate sometimes the delhezi comes up and hangs on the floating plants never seen him eat up top ornate always stays at the bottom of the tank unless hes after a fish :)
