I was just wondering if there is anyone else out there that has a particular fish that they just can't keep for some reason. Mine seems to be flowerhorn / trimacs.

About four or five months ago I had a flowerhorn die on me. Water quality was fine, all the other fish in the tank were fine. About a month ago I purchased a trimac from Ken Davis. He never did come out in the open in the tank. He stayed behind a powerhead from the day that I received him. He died yesterday.

I really want to get another trimac but I would hate for it to not make it either.

Anyway, what's your problem fish?

Green Terrors.

I have tried prolly three times over the last three years with ones around the 1-1.5" mark. none made it past 2 weeks, good water conditions, similar or smaller size fish in the tank, died no obvious reason (ie no damage or anything). Trying again at the moment with one that was 2" maybe a little bigger, just made it past weeks, things are looking, ok at the moment

I've never had a cichlid die on me, but had to get rid of fish due to aggression. I had a 8'' texas that I couldn't keep w/ anything, because she would try and kill tank mates. Even when she was 3'', she almost killed my 6'' male convict. I still have the convict, and he is over 10 years old.
I have had problems w/ ich, HITH, and popeye in the past, but cured the fish. The only fish I had problems keeping is pictus catfish, but that was a long time ago and it was ich that killed them.

Dovii -- because wife won't let me buy a 400 gallon just yet :)

I haven't kept the more sensitive kind yet (odos for e.g.), so I haven't had any cichlid die on me -- those that did were because of some domestic violence issues.

Trimacs should be very easy to keep -- did he have a dominant fish that kept him from coming out in your tank?

I never saw any other fish even show the trimac any attention. When I put it in the tank it went straight into the corner behind the powerhead. It never moved from that spot for some reason. It would grab a bit from time to time but that was it. I never saw it over 6" away from that spot.

:crazy:aro, gar, arapaima, rtc, tsn in other words monster fish
so im sticking with my rbp's for now
coz my landlord wouldnt let me bing a tank larger than 75g:(

For me it's jurupari but I am trying them again, so far so good.

I also have never had any luck with pictus cats. I can keep the 4 line pictus, but the common spotted ones never make it for me.
