My dad currently has a 9" Oscar in a 55 gal aquarium by himself. I saw a thread on here about feeding oscars and a lot of people suggested worms, which got me thinking about this particular Oscar.

My dad wants to give him worms, but the oscar is terrified of them. He will literally go on his complete side if he even sees a worm (which is kind of funny when I pass his tank with a worm when going upstairs to feed my managuense). Just wanted to know if anyone else has this problem? He's never actually bitten a worm before, but he's been around them off and on throughout the last year. So it's not that he doesn't like how they taste, he's just genuinely scared of them.

So does anyone else have this problem? Has anyone fixed this problem? I'm curious.

That's funny. it's possible that, as a baby before you got him an eel or something could've been somewhat aggressive to him.
I bet the worms you're carrying by, to the managuense are really big, eh? MONSTERS! Lol.
Sounds like a good challenging project, to me. haha.
If you have any worm-gobbling gentle fish you could put him with temporarily, it might help. the fish wold only have to be big enough for the oscar not to eat, and start with real small worms.
Even by himself, you can try cutting big ones. sometimes in packs of red wigglers there are baby sizes. Either way, start small and gradually increase the size.
If he's too scared of those :-) LOL, drop him 'one live bloodworm at a time' or whatever you can get ahold of.

You could post a video for our entertainment. might as well get a laugh out of your oscar fainting at the sight of a worm.

lmao@the oscar fainting, i have a grow out tank with 2 fader flowerhorns, a jag, a juvi red devil, and a few other small guys .
now out of the bunch my baby fh's are my faves so i always try to feed them the primo lol, and you think i can get a worm anywhere near them.........nope that jag can smell them coming up the stairs i swear , it doesant even make it to the water fully and hes swallowing it the fh's dont have a clue whats going on before its over the female devil is the second in command in there , and this mean nasty pink convict female is half the size of all the fish but 2 times as nasty , so we all have worm issues from time to time,
it also seems that in a dimly lit room helps
and also having 7 of your boys are screaming EAT IT... ITS RIGHT THERE EAT IT... doesnt help

lol good luck, but the scissors thing does help, the wife dislikes me chopping them up alive but hey..... fish gotta eat and i think the stink of the blood and guts in the water helps too, also you could try and let your worms roll around in garlic extract i dont know an oscar out there that wouldnt love a nice garlicy worm chunk...
granted its alot of work for a worm... have you tried prawns?

lmao@the oscar fainting,.............. have you tried prawns?
NOooo. I want to see video of a 9" oscar falling over at the sight of a worm!

Put together enough different shots of that, & you could win something on America's Funniest Home Videos.
Your oscar could win an Oscar. LOL.
