I am not very into schooling fish; I love the interesting behavior and looks of cichlids, oddballs, and bottom feeders. For me schooling fish are much like plants: I love the way they make a tank look and so I keep them to create the visual impact I want. However, I have always like barbs and thought they get an undeserved bad rap, but I only ever had a few in random tanks. So when I got a great deal on 60g rimless cube, I decided to plant it and set it up for my Botia loaches and complete it with an assortment of barbs for an "Asian" feel.

But now after stocking the tank with [most of the] barbs I want I am realizing I like them even more than I thought. They have great colors, and their behavior is much more interesting and diverse then a typical schooling fish!

Anyone else love barbs? Post pictures! I haven't had a chance to get pics of my own barbs yet, but here are the species I have!

I love love love my Dennisons! I've also kept tiger barbs. Would someday like to do a barb and coaches tank. I've wanted to keep black ruby and cherry barbs. Saw some great looking filament barbs at the life the other day too.

Here's My dennisons. They're too quick to get a good clear shot of but you can see them in the background. I have 5 in my 135.

I had a school of female ruby barbs before I got the tiger barbs.

Barbs can bring any tank to life and are a must have depending on the tropicals you are keeping. You all posted some nice photos.

I'm partial to tiger barbs, love the power struggles, playfulness and activity levels
I agree! I had a group of tiger barbs that we're so entertaining to watch. I'll have to find the video I have of them. They would have races back and forth along the tank and also the nose to nose circling around dominance matches.

My tiger barbs are real jerks sometimes. Nasty, relentless chasing.
I'm gonna add some talked plants this weekend and in hopes that it'll help with some of the hardcore chasing that goes on.
