I am not very into schooling fish; I love the interesting behavior and looks of cichlids, oddballs, and bottom feeders. For me schooling fish are much like plants: I love the way they make a tank look and so I keep them to create the visual impact I want. However, I have always like barbs and thought they get an undeserved bad rap, but I only ever had a few in random tanks. So when I got a great deal on 60g rimless cube, I decided to plant it and set it up for my Botia loaches and complete it with an assortment of barbs for an "Asian" feel.
But now after stocking the tank with [most of the] barbs I want I am realizing I like them even more than I thought. They have great colors, and their behavior is much more interesting and diverse then a typical schooling fish!
Anyone else love barbs? Post pictures! I haven't had a chance to get pics of my own barbs yet, but here are the species I have!
