Anyone else love barbs?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My tiger barbs are real jerks sometimes. Nasty, relentless chasing.
I'm gonna add some talked plants this weekend and in hopes that it'll help with some of the hardcore chasing that goes on.

I never experience that when I keep tigers in shoals of 10+

I don't have ten. I have 6. That must be the issue. I was thinking of adding a couple more but I don't have them in the biggest tank.

I don't think barbs get a "bad rap" at all....underrated and overlooked perhaps. While most members here may not talk about them much, I believe a large number of us either still keep some and/or started out with them....and still fond of them. I have always been a fan of tigers and denisons. As a matter of fact, I'm waiting for my local Petsmart to have their $1 sale on TB to pick up about 20 to mix in with my larger fish. I like the effect of little fish schooling together when there's large fish in their presence :)

Dennison barbs are truly beautiful fish. I've got 6 at about 4 inch apiece. I didn't think they grew much bigger than this until i saw a shoal in a public aquarium in berlin on you tube. They must have been about 8 inches apiece and they were stunning.

Try a shoal of 12, the difference is night and day in their behaviour imo. If its the convict tank, seems like it has a pretty big footprint that would easily take 12...

I'm worried about over stocking it. There is also a 6" syno cat in there with them.

That's fair enough, nothing a little extra water change couldn't solve though :P

Unless it was convict or syno aggression I guess

Nah they leave the barbs alone.
I have a tough time keeping up with tank duties as it is.

I'm really hoping adding some tall plants will help.

Another one for Tiger Barbs here! Actually most barbs, but especially Tiger :D
It's funny to see cichlids confused and annoyed by the tiger barbs constantly fussing with each other.
