Anyone else view thier fish keeping as therapy?

I find that doing any kind of maintenance helps me relax. Busy body keeps a busy mind at rest. Looking at them isn't bad either :)

My fish tank is like a place away from everything. I can go sit in front of it and just relax and not have to worry about anything. Best part of it is that it will always be there waiting.

I love my tanks, but almost just as much I love nerding out with friends and other enthusiasts. That aspect is very therapeutic, which is probably why I can't quit smoking. I'm a social smoker.

Started into bigger fish for the first time after my wife's first miscarriage. Seemed therapeutic for both of us. Now that we have 3 kids and another on the way she's mostly moved to watching while I still take care of them. For me it's now a nice break from the hustle and bustle of the busy household.

A very good point, I't something thats always there waiting for you. Something that you can control for the betterment of your fishy pets.

Good post, summed it up for me anyway :) if I'm having a bad day I like to dim the room lights and just watch the lit fish tank, quiet and peaceful :)

I would probably have had nervous breakdowns were it not for my fish... what with the different medical diagnoses, family crises relationship issues and uni work that have been piling on me... I need contact with animals for my sanity, and given I can't have fluffy animals... Fish are relaxing to watch, and taking care of them can sometimes be the only thing in my life that I have complete control over. Sounds weird I know but...

Very true.

I can honestly say this hobby has helped me overcome some other unhealthy addictions that I've been blessed to put behind me.
