Anyone ever breed a silver saum with a gold saum?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How do we know they aren't differant species until they are described??

But yes, even if they are the same species, it's still technically a hybrid, becuase the deffination of hybrid includes mixing differant races of the same species.

And until they are described, it's best to treat them as differant species so we don't have another midas/red devil or convict mess.

It definitely is in my opinion. Assuming you believe this would not be a hybrid then I assume you would believe the same with an aequidens rivulatus cross breed

My train of thought was that this would be like breeding a sable pomeranian with a black pomeranian. I have the offspring of such a combination but we don't say she is a hybrid. She is registered as a pure pomeranian. But if the saums (rivulatus is clearly different in ways besides coloration) are just a color variation then like my pomeranian example then perhaps it is not a hybrid. I just don't know enough about this.

Labeled by Fish Exporters and Hobbyists.. no scientific ID yet, so how do you know they are 3 separate species? They could be regional color morphs.. or a series of many new species..

but they are all Aequidens sp.. so no reason to get in a pissing match over it..

He was probably curious as to what type of pattern they produce. My guess is that they will take on the coloration of one parent or the other, rather then a white/orange speckled or light orange or anything like that..

I would agree with the taking on the coloration of one or the other. I think the silbersaum (rivulatus) is defineitly a separate species as they have more than just physical differences. The scale layout, for example, is totally different.

Man wouldn't it be cool if it made a new looking saum like breeding pink cons with black ones and getting marbleds

The main difference I think though is the trim. I don't know if that would marble.

Not saying it would marble i was useing cons an example that the colors might mix in some way which thinking about it i don't know how they would
