I see some advertisements for it, and it claims to be 250 times as strong as glass.

I found some 1/2 inch polycarbonate acrylic for around $300 for an 8 x 4 sheet.

I figure if its stronger than regular acrylic, would you not need as thick for it if the tank is going to be 24 inches tall? I would use some nice supports on the top to prevent it from bowing, but I just didn't know if anyone had firsthand experience with this stuff because half inch thick of this is cheaper than 3/4 inch thick of the regular stuff.

Does it glue with regular acrylic cement?

polycarbonate and acrylic are actually different plastics. Polycarb will not glue with regular cement, you'll need something like weld-on 16 that lists polycarbonate as one of it's intended substrates. Polycarb is much more impact resistant than acrylic, but I don't know about clarity and stiffness.

the problem with useing it in the acuarum is that it will still bow like any other acrylic. it is basicly lexan. it is just as clear and much more impact resistant. 3/4" this poly is handgun resistant. but like i said, you cant use a big sheet of 1/2 and expect it not to bow, because it will...

Depending on the size of your projest you are still going to have to go as thick is acrylic so unless its cheaper there is no advantage to useing it.

Unless your a south african diplomat running an international crime syndicate and are expecting a visit from mel gibson...then it really would be worthwhile coughing up for the 3/4", just to see mels face when he unloads into your lionfish!

hahha wtf?

Ok I guess a no on the polycarbonate then. Thank you. I will just go with the 3/4 regular acrylic. I want to know if thats good enough for 24" height though. I suspect it will.
