Agreed. Actually, right now probably is not the best time to build your own tank due to oil prices.

sorry to disappoint u but oil prices probably wont drop more than 10cents and then it will got up 20 then drop 10 and just keep doing that for a decade soon we're paying $10 for a gallon.

Not to put a damper on you day though! Have a good one!:D

Polycarbonate costs quite a bit more than acrylic, so it's great that you're getting it at no cost.

To join the pieces you'll need to weld them together; however, the joint will not be as strong as the wall. It should be fine though for your purposes.

Please keep in mind that polycarbonate scratches quite a bit more easily than either glass or acrylic unless a scratch/abrasion resistant coating has been applied. You may also want to double check that the polycarbonate sheets are UV resistant to avoid yellowing.

It all depends on how involved you wish to be in the process and your level of expertise in these matters. It's not just the tank. It's the filtration, the fish, and regular maintenance of everything. Given the size of aquarium you want, you need people with expertise in each area.

I'm not in the UK so I cannot recommend any firm, but searching the Internet should provide you with a starting point, for example: http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/links.htm and http://www.wharfaquatics.co.uk/tanks.htm .

I would suggest you find someone with the expertise required to maintain your aquarium on an ongoing basis who would also be willing and sufficiently knowledgeable to act on your behalf in obtaining the tank, filtration system, and fish.

It sounds like an exciting project. Best of luck.
