I have stand with two 80's stacked and i connected them with pvc to hooked it all up to one single filtration and heater system. I also have a 180 glass done and 250 acrylic im setting up and was thinking about trying to double stack those two large tanks and hook them up to one single filtration system and keep enough space without hitting the top of the room. Anyone already do it???

I saw at least one member on MFK with 180s stacked, I do not see a problem as long as you can manage to get a stand that will hold them.

That sounds like a challenge, but it would look pretty awesome when you are done. That is just almost 2 tons of tank, water, and stuff though!

I am NO carpenter. So this is a serious question. Please don't laugh. Could you just use thin steel and weld them together? Wouldn't that be strong enough to hold two 180 gallons?

I was thinking that i used 8 3 feet tall 4x4's for my 180 glass, i could prob shorten it, then build pilars on all four side of it and i would prob have to have atleast one in the front that would block the view of the bottom tank and 2 supports in the back. Then i guess use wood to flush both tanks together so you can't see the frame. And also put the filter on the side or back to ensure proper height.

No one has any pictures????

What are the dimensions of the tanks and how high is the room? Do you have enough space to do this?

Ok, well I don't know? We use different sizes of steel at my job I didn't know if there was a certain thickness that some one would recommend. We haver pieces that are a few (mm)'s thick and some that are an inch thick.

1/4" angle iron 4x6 bevelcut and weld should be fine in you engineered it right you could use lumber
