Anyone ever keep Ozark Bass or Roanoke Bass.
I have Shadow Bass & a Rock Bass, I would like to try their relitives.
I caught a fue Ozark Bass in my life but I was not prepared to bring any home. They look like they would be good additions to the aquarium.
I only saw Roanoke Bass in photos, they are neet fish too, I would love to ceatch one. Or better yet keep some of each.

what is an ozark bass bud? i ask because i live in the ozarks and have some native bass from here, but im not sure thats what your talking about

ozark bass like the shadow bass is a type of rock bass , but only lives in the ozarks in the white river basin.....they have a more distinguished spot pattern and coloration and are smaller than rock bass.

This is a very desireable little fish IMO, Not actually a Bass at all but a member of the sunfish family Centrarchidae, below is a pic i found online, Hope you dont mind my adding it :) Ozark Bass.jpg

from looking at pictures of one, I think it would be a great fish! I kind of want one now.

however, Roanoke Bass, from what i've read - are listed as a vulnerable species, so i'm unsure of the legality of keeping them.

My investigation into their endangered status, is they live in polluted waters, and are overfished. why, even though a firm believer in never catch and release any fish back into nature. do i have this gnawing feeling that anyone taking these fish as pets would be doing at least that fish a great favor, And breeding then releasing the fry in the same area, but in cleaner waters would be a sin against Nature . I wasnt able to find any credible info where DNR anywhere was doing anything to insure that this beautiful fish doesnt go extinct. I have an idea, one of you guys catch and breed some, then distribute the fry to any hobbyist who seriously wants to insure they are around for awhile. :) That wouldnt hurt anything and would also get me some neat fish

The roanoke bass is susceptible to habitat degradation. The VDGIF and other conservation organizations have been working with local landowners on trying to improve their existing habitat, not only for the roanoke bass, but other endemic species in the region.

They are listed as SOC (Federal Species of Concern) and SSC (State Special Concern) which are neither legal statuses. They currently are legal to keep but are being watched by authorities to see if they need further protection.
