Anyone ever succeeded fixing a dead FX5?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well that was easy. Took longer to check out at home depot (buying a long phillips head) than to do it. There were rocks - not sand, rocks - stuck in the round outer piece of the impeller. Poked those out, gave it a rinse, and it fired right up. The BB is all dead, but that's OK. I'll just run another filter for a month with it and the other FX5. Gave me a chance to rinse all the muddy crap out of the bio media so the fish are better off for it anyway. And wow what a difference in flow.

Ta-da!!!!!

Yeah, I don't know what the heck I was so worried about. I guess whenever I've had filters mess up before they still at least made some kind of noise.

Now if only I could get my 2028 to stop leaking...

Hmm, I just went in there and it's humming fairly loudly. I've heard that noise before but it was temporary.

Hopefully it's not a terrible thing, as I'm leaving for the weekend.

tilt it back and forth and see if there is air trapped in it.

As long as we're in an FX5 thread, does anyone have a trick/timing that prevents it from splashing water out the holes up top when you disconnect the hoses?

When I disconnect for cleaning... when it's still plugged in and running, I shut off the intake first. Then after about 2-3 seconds I turn off the out and then unplug it. The FX5 will pump the water out and then when you disconnect it will have less water in the filter and it won't spill. I had the same problem and don't anymore.
