where we have it for cheap
Just curious has anyone ever used crawdads as a food source with their cichla? Rather it was an occasional treat or whatever. I put 3 small ones in my 180 and my bass paid them a little bit of attention but they hide so much they are almost forgotten about. I guess I have a new clean up crew now. Thanks in advance for responses.

I have in the past as treats and the nutrition value is pretty good when i throw em in they don't have time to hide before my tem gets to them the only annoying thing is cleaning out the shells once spit up my goonch cat really likes crawfish too

I fed them to my old rock bass. I would catch little 1/2" ones from my creek. I'd put about 12 in at a time I don't think they ever hit the bottom. As far as pbass go, I don't trust fish from my creek for them lol

I dropped in a couple in my tank a while ago. The next day after they were being pushed around by my oscars they were completely vanished. Never really looked for them but they might still be in there hiding very well. This thread reminded me of them. I never found any shell fragments or anything so they might still be alive

You keep peacock bass?

OHHHHHHH u going to take that!!!!!;) FIGHT!!!! jkjk I think everyone should have cichla, But crawfish are in the wild, so I would think that pbass will or have eaten some in there life sometime. Crawfish are very high in fat and protein. In fact 12% fat and 88% protein. But if I was going to feed my pbass crayfish I would quarantine them first and just before I would take the claws off so they don't hurt or harm the pbass in anyway, I have heard of story's about crabs and crawfish causing internal injury's to fish. The table above is the nutrition value of Hikari Massivore Delite Pellets. Now compare them to the crawfish. There almost the same. But I would think that feeding them wouldn't hurt, If the love them then I would feed them.

If a smaller mouthed oscar can eat a crayfish then there is no doubt that the pbass will. I also believe they have a voracious appetite

Like I said how I caught the real small ones. If you do that you don't have to really worry about the claws because they are so small.
