No he's been in the same tank since february. I thought maybe it was the catfish that were in with him but I moved them out over two weeks ago. Water test all fine, temp 85, he has lots of places to hide big drift wood and now its only him the goby in pictures and a albino gibbs pleco in a 125 gallon tank. When hes chasing that goby he gets even darker.
I had another member at my house and he said he'd never seen one like it so that got me thinking neither have I.

i've had cichla go dark to keep a low profile when there have been larger more dominant cichla in the tank but not maintain it on a regular occurrence.
