I used their old formula and never had any complaints.. Are these upgraded formulas worth it? NLS has always been cutting edge as far as food is concerned and their food, at least their old formula, speaks for itself. I was thinking of getting a small container of both and feeding half Probiotix formula / half Cichlid Naturox formula at feeding times but part of me is skeptical. This reminds me of everyone jumping on the grain-free dog food band wagon years ago and then recently some college (forgot which one) did a study and maybe found a link between grain-free food and heart conditions / problems so everyone is afraid to feed grain-free now.

With that said, has anyone here feed any of their new formulas?

Recently grabbed a jar of Algae Max but haven't gotten to it yet.

Just bought the new 3 mill tropical "large" pellet!

Not exactly "large" imo but medium... my juvie cichlids go apeshit for it and the ingrediants look amazing compared to any other brand pellets I've been buying... def too small for large cichlids, my Jack's I dont think even see it sinking in front of their faces haha so the large cichlid pellets would be better for adults

Ive always been an nls fan but lately im getting tired of the sinking pellets that dont sink. Also dont like the fact that the larger wafer sizes arent easy to get.

1 for the road...i wish they would standardize the different sizes across all the formulas

I've been feeding NLS for 15-20 yrs or so, I have also been feeding most of the newer formulas for several months now. 1 mm Cichlid, 3mm Large Fish, Probiotix, AlgaeMax 2mm, AlgaeMax wafers, etc. Probiotix is kind of like the TherA, not something that one has to feed all the time, but I guess one can if they want. I don't.

The Naturox series was created in response to the outcry of consumers who wanted fish food sans chemical preservatives, such as Ethoxyquin and/or BHT. This was never an issue for me personally, but like usual the tree huggers won. All good, I like the new food, as do my fish.

I have a LOT of surface agitation, and aggressive eaters, so the odd floating pellet doesn't float long in my tanks, a total non issue for me personally, others YMMV.

I feed my 2” Fronts NLS 1mm Cichlid pellets. They love it and are picking up bulk faster than I thought they would. I was told they were slow growers. May be compared to SA &CA cichlids, but faster than I thought. The two fastest growing ones are even showing flashes of blue already. I like it.

Was feeding Cobalt spirulina for a year and growth of my mbuna cichlids was barely noticeable. Back in November I found this stuff and growth is really good now.
With this food a little goes a long way. I give them just what they can consume in about half a minute twice a day.

Most recent container of NLS I bought is Naturox formula. Maybe it tastes slightly different because fish took a few days to like it, but after that no issues.

They're long lived fish that take longer to mature and reach adult size but I wouldn't call them slow growers. I've grown out quite a few, including my own fry and consistently get males to 6" in a year, some a bit bigger, 8 inches in two years, some bigger, then an inch or so a year until @ about 5 years. Females smaller, some a good bit. I don't 'power feed' or do way high protein, etc. In fact, I feed lightly to moderately. So I don't know what some people are doing or feeding not to get similar results.

I didn't get specific information about growth rate. The guy I bought the fry from, just said that they were Slow growers.
