well, i was fishing today and caught some bass and bluegills. i released almost all of my catches except for one bluegill. It's eyes kinda of got hooked real bad so i didnt think it would survive. Later i fed it to my piranhas, and they ate everypart of it. EVERY part. Never saw such an intense feeding in my life either. I washed the bluegill very well before feeding it. I know it still might have internal parasites, but i thought piranhas originated from the wild, so they shouldnt have too much problems eating wild fish. Anyone got any experience with feeding their piranhas wild fish?

feeding wild caught fish is fine but you are risking the chance of parasites. best to quarantine the wild caught fish or freeze it for a period of time to kill off as many parasites as possible. I have seen anchor worms on some of the blue gills I caught in the past so just be careful.

What would you treat them with? cause i was hoping to do this. there's a spot with TONS of bluegill right down the road from me.

you can use prazipro or something similar, I also heard jungle lab parasite clear is good too.

I had anchor worms on a pumpkinseed I caught and kept. They showed up about a week later.

Just freeze them for a couple of hours. They hardly lose any nutritional value and you get rid of any parasites!

I catch trout and feed em to my cichla. Gotta filet em up and debone em first. Just dont keep unhealthy looking bluegill.
