Anyone fly fish?

I just recently bought my first fly rod this season. Its nothing special, but I am hooked! I went to Cabelas and had the guy teach me just the basic cast and roll cast, and outfit me with a couple starter flies and poppers, and a cheapy Cahill rod and reel to see if Id like it. So much to learn, but so much fun. Ive been taking it to the local lakes and can literally pull a panfish or bass in every other cast. Never knew what I was missing. Ive been fishing with topwater flies and poppers behind a bobber for ages and had good luck, this just eliminated the bobber and tangles.

Anyone else fly fish or have any beginner tips?

don't go out with it on windy days....you will hook yourself in the back of the head more times then it hits the water...make sure you have the right weight rod for the fish you want to catch or it will break...lastly practice and let the line cast itself don't try and force it as that wont work...gl

Im a beginner too. I've tossed the line around before, but it wasn't until I hooked my first bass on a popper that really got me into the fly rod.

I'm going to try pike on the fly rod as soon as opener hits.

fly fishing is too fancy for me xD although i do have a fly reel that i bought from japan for no reason ._. and i do have a bunch of nice flies that i never use xD

I started fly fishing last summer and haven't put it down since. Having the right weight rod makes all the difference. If you going for bigger fish and bigger flies or streamers a heavier rod/line weight will cast further without as many headaches. Also a lighter rod/line weight will have a softer presentation, but will be effected by the wind more than a heavier set-up.
