lol ya...they get EXTREMELY defensive when anything like that seems to be brought up. I'm no conspiracy theorist but there would be little to no surprise on my part if they were reintroducing big cats to your state on the downlow. As stated in several of those articles no one wants mountain lions gaining a foothold any longer in Iowa lol.

Tbh I don't care. I have been on backpacking trips in Wisconsin and gotten pretty close to a black bear(50 yards) and it was probably a quarter mile from the campsite. We left it alone and it went the other direction. In Colorado we rented a house and were very close to Rocky Mountain national park and we saw a bear in the park and it did the same thing the bear in Wisconsin did. In smokey mountains we saw another and it did the same thing. The only time there was an issue was when a bear went through the "bear proof" trash can and opens the back of my uncles truck. If the animal isn't bothering me I have no issue with it. If it is killing pets you bet I'm going to be out there.

In the city the local enforcement does not have the education or means to deal with these problems effectively. Seems counter productive when the ministry is essentially working against that as well. They shot a bear in my city about 3-4 years ago, they got close enough to shoot it with a shotgun, but weren't capable of tranqing it and relocating? Said the bear came from 3-4 hours north and just wandered in. Complete BS because the local hunters were tracking the bear for 2-3 years prior. It kept to itself, never hurt anyone, it just wandered into a place where it was spotted, coincidentally near a newly built subdivision, and that's the end of that. I'm not an expert on this stuff, but logic dictates to me that with the scientific and habitual knowledge we have about our local wildlife and geography control measures could be put in (especially if this is becoming a bigger problem) rather than make apparently the first choice that comes to mind. It's the old we introduced snakes to help stay the mouse population and now we have to introduce whatever to kill the snakes, and after that we'll have to introduce something else... makes my head spin.

To be honest man I truly understand and respect your point of view on the subject. The guys that go out and shoot EVERYTHING that moves are the ones that give us a bad name. As I said, I respect coyotes, I do. If I could get a pup and keep it as a pet, I totally would, but when they come to my backdoor and cause problems thats when I get nasty back. I don't think they'd invite me into their den because we share an area lol. I don't go on killing sprees, or sign petitions and organize coyote genocide parties at any point. But I take care of them when they become a problem. And there are definitely areas where they are a way bigger problem than here.
I'm not saying we aren't to blame because we are. We as humans have a nasty habit of taking rather than sharing. But short of living in space I'm not sure I can be to many places without sharing space with someone or something. I take care of my homestead, and let them take care of theirs. we aren't going to get rid of them, they are here to stay. People have tried, it results in a higher population next year anyhow lol.
I've let black bears roam through my fields and never thought to shoot, and I've passed on yotes too being to far away, like i said I'm not going to take a potshot at one on the off chance I'm gonna injure it. They hurt me, I hurt them. They stay away, I won't even think twice to let them do their thing.
