best kept in schools of 5 or more, otherwise they tend to be aggressive with one another. they also have a tendancy to be fin nippers. they also can reach a foot in length, so they need to be kept with fish of a comparable size.
i had a special case :
my leporinus that i grew from 4" to 12" became so mellow that i had to separate it away from the tank in order for him to be able to compete for food. before i separate it, it was fine with big dats, crenicichla, pbass, silver dollar etc etc
if you read peoples messages on forums mostly the fish is nasty and sometimes a killer when big but then you do read the occasional story of how it did fine with the other big fish so there seems to be no guarantee how the personality of the fish will be like good or bad, but im just reporting that ive read many bad posts on forums etc about this fish, I wanted to get one badly but decided against it cause I read so much negative things about this species.
ok reading stuff is just useless, especially from people who say they know stuff, but it only works and makes sense that if the person who mentioned stuff, has one of that species them self
