anyone got a Banded Leporinus

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had one. They are prtty cool fish and will do fine w/ aggressive cichlids. They grow pretty fast, and mine grew from 2'' to 7'' in less then a year. It got spooked at shot to the other end of the tank and killed its self. Keep the tank covered, because they will jump.
I have read a lot of post that say these things are killers, but I didn't have that experience. Mine even schooled with my silver dollars. The people who had other fish killed by one of these must of had guppies or something small. I just don't see how they could kill anything.
They like a varried diet too.

Hello the people I read posts about DID have EXPERIENCE with the banded leporinus, thats why they were posting their experience with the fish, many said they were aggresive and sometimes killers, I do not have experience with them.

Real awesome colors and real bad fin nipper. They will crunch smaller fish and devor them. The myth is that they eat fish eyes. It's true. My lep below.

i've heard they do great with african cichlid, but purely just based on their aggressive nature. but if i remember right, isnt leporinus, a characin , is from south america ... and it just doesnt match wit african cichlid ....
