Wanna go MONSTER, but its cold here, and I dont fancy the costs of heating a big pool in the barn, So was gonna go native with a Wels.... Anyone got one?

I dont know if your looking for personal experience or just information but planetcatfish.com has info on these extremely large catfish.

Yeah, there is quite a lot of very general info like how big they are but not much on keeping them (ie water quality)! I was amazed when stotty showed me a pic of that monster...and its native! Lots of people keep the redtails and TSN, I was just wondering if anyone keeps a Wels or even a MeKong?

Thanks for the site though, havent read this one. Quite a few fishing sites have info too...

That websites cool, thats got the info, and a really good article on giant cats....cheers!

i wanted a wels but did not have the room . if you want something cool with it try carp

That would be awesome...A big arse wels cat in with giant carp! Once they were a decent size you could keep a fair sized pike in there too.... Do we have any other big fish? Can you buy wels here or would I have to catch it?

Thats a fantastic catch...what did it weight? I saw that photo posted on another thread with some other awesome pics. Where you fishing? I want to get a baby so I can train him to feed from my hand in the aquarium, before putting him out...be cool putting your hand in your pond with a fish finger and having a monster like that swim up and take it! Did he taste good? How long did it take for him to give up the fight?

I was wondering the same why more people who like large catfish don't keep them.
Well turns out they are in illegal in the US so that limits their market somewhat.

Yeah, it would....I was looking on the Dumbarse Defra site and it says they are prohibited here too...Some one better get in the rivers and tell them! I was suprised but a lot of the fishing sites are saying they dont negatively affect game fish sstocks when they colonise a river....
