Anyone got a Wels?

I have caught a few in the UK. i fish a few carp lakes with them in but they are not huge like the ones i have seen in France and Spain

Well, since you opened my eyes to their existence Stotty, I been doing some reading. A lot of websites are saying that theyre not native to france and spain, that the rhine is their natural western boundary...well the rhine has never proved an effective barrier to anything<lol>. They were introduce to france, spain and italy and reach MONSTER proportions cause of the warm winters and hot summers...here they stop growing in the winter... A bit like the douglas fir growing bigger in scotland where it was introduced than in its native Canada...

then no go to Spain the Ebro is not a Dirt Pond

and you could get your self one like this.

Silurus glanis, commonly known as the wels catfish, is not a native of Spain or the UK they have never been as big as the wells catfish found in Russian lakes there are tales of them going up to 600lb

I'm a fishing novice...I've only caught one fish so far! Only been fishing a Month! Got a little pike...but that was cheating cause I saw him and dropped the lure right in front of his nose! Strangley I got into fishing through fishkeeping....now I didnt expect that! How do you fish for them?

726lbs/330 kg. but unable to verify this record. as it happens at one point they did say European Catfish or Wels, Silurus glanis ... If a young specimens had found their way into Loch Ness in the 1880's, they could have grown to a substantial size( I .e Lock Ness monster)
