Anyone have a Barracuda and a Gar?

Hi everyone! New to the forum but have a big question.

Currently running a 20g long planted tank with a 5" Florida Gar named Sir. I am looking to upgrade to a much much bigger tank in the very near future and am hoping to do a predator tank keeping fish similar in size to Sir. Ideally I want to get a Red Tail Barracuda to keep in there but wanted to see if anyone has tried it before I attempt to get one. I read through the Gar Tank Mates thread but didnt see anything about barracudas. Also want to say that the other tank mates are currently a Pleco that will be re-homed, a cory cat, and a serpae tetra. Looking forward to any answers!

Hi,at first you must learn that your gar will be 50 cm and more...And your biggest problem is that Red Tail Barracuda reach only 27 cm in length!!! So you cant mixing small fishes with apex predators....unless you want make from Red Tail Barracuda a feeder fish..... Go to google: Acestrorhynchus falcatus – Red-tailed Freshwater Barracuda

Could work for a tiny bit of time-- Obviously neither will be able to live in that tank for long at all. The gar will eventually grow much larger and could be a threat. Keep in mind, gars grow pretty quickly.

ok cool, that just sets me up to start a tank for just barracudas and keep gars with gars!
