Im looking to purchase a great dane and would like someone to chime in on their experiences with great danes.

From what ive read, they are couch potatoes and all around great dogs for a family that even has other pets

I'd suggest talking to a reputable breeder they could give you all the info you'll ever need

I second getting a shelter dog but talking to a breeder is good for info. Just make sure it's socialized

Adopting from a shelter would be a great choice, i agree, but in this case i am looking for a certain colored dane puppy otherwise i would look at a shelter/rescue.
They can also have major health issues if not bred properly, so i would like to get my dream dog right

I personally don't have 1 but my neighbor has 2 HUGE ones and my friend has 1 as well. They're not as lazy as most people say they are. When young they are extremely active, my dog used to play with my friend's for hours, and now it's about 5 years old and still moves around a lot. Be prepared to feed A LOT of food. My friend goes through a 70lb bag of food in just a few weeks. But they're super nice and love attention. Just make sure it's already trained not to jump on people. Having a 150lb+ dog catch you off guard is NOT fun. Nearly knocked the wind outta me. Good thing I'm pretty strong cuz it could've easily knocked me down or pushed me into something that's fragile.
